Rodney Forest Estate is less than a one hour drive north of Auckland CBD and is accessed from two entry points. The back block is at the end of Moir Hill Rd, (between Puhoi and Warkworth) approx 7 km's from SH1 while the front block is 8.5 kilometres west of Warkworth Township on a sealed road.
The Estate comprises 201.6 hectares of rolling to steep land in 3 titles consisting of 134.1 hectares, 42.3 hectares, and 25.1 hectares respectively. All titles adjoin making one contiguous parcel. The front block of approx 100 hectares fronting Woodcocks Rd has been replanted in mostly Pinus Radiata. 3.9 hectares was planted in 1990 and the balance between 2002 and 2005. A small grove of Poplar was planted in 2004
The remaining 100 hectares accessed from Moirs Hill Rd consists mainly of moderately steep contour cut over land waiting replanting. A small area of native bush lies at the southern boundary.
Previous logging operations were carried out from Moirs Hill Rd and an extensive network of metalled roadways gives access to many established skid sites. Some vegetation regrowth is creeping onto roadways in places however future infrastructure costs will be minimal.
With the expanding log trade into China and Asia likely to continue into the future forestry appears to remain a viable industry in which to participate. Rodney Forest Estate being 50% planted is a low risk investment providing simple control.
As well a lifestyle type subdivision along the 1.2 kilometre frontage to sealed Woodcocks Rd where the contour is gentler could be considered.
